Enlightened leaders create workplaces where people are the focus of the corporate culture and the customer is the focus of the people.
South Florida, one of the hardest hit regions by the recession for the last three years, is showing signs of life. In fact 6 to 12 months ago, my initial conversation with this new client would probably not even have taken place; but today a reputable community bank in South Florida, recently infused with new capital, is aggressively expanding and hiring for their critical needs.
With quick expansion come procedural growing pains; multiple platforms, top-heavy management, decentralized processes (specifically hiring), just the wrong people in the wrong positions.
Executive leadership determined the top priority needed to be the strategic hiring of top professionals within each distribution channel within each market served. Therefore, all Division Heads/EVP’s (ie. retail, commercial, mortgage, business banking, operations and more) were to be accountable for hiring the talent within their individual distribution channels with minimal HR support.
By using traditional networking techniques, a Business Development Opportunity (BDO) was created through skillful marketing of an “Impact Player” directly to a hiring manager with a critical need. After learning more about the bank’s situation and assessing the hiring manager’s needs, it was determined to submit a different “benchmark” candidate, which was not the original Impact Player.
